Controlling Things
Feb 07, 2024I've worked with several clients recently on the topic of control:
- in their business
- in sex
- in parenting
- in relationships
- in life
And even though the root of control was a bit different for different people, there were some similarities. Let me talk about them.
The theme was around NOT BEING SAFE, NOT FEELING SAFE INSIDE
And because of that, trying to control externally by
- overplanning (like, I mean, creating crazy detailed to-do lists and business plans and planning every hour of their day)
- being reactive with their kids and telling them what to do instead of guiding them
- being controlling with their partner and putting their partner down by emotionally controlling or manipulating things
- being stuck in thinking or doing, instead of taking aligned and internally guided actions.
None of these patterns are malicious or conscious.
When I work with clients, we don't talk about these patterns, because talking doesn't change things & isn't enough.
We go deeper - to the ROOT.
We move through these patterns in the body and mind - with LOVE, compassion, and clarity. Sometimes control represents our inner child, past painful life experiences, conditioning, learned behaviors, or fear.
Change cannot happen by shaming ourselves. But it does have to happen through taking ownership and embracing discipline.
When you soften your desire to control, yourself or others, you become
- free
- joyful
- compassionate
- present
- wise
- disciplined
- effective
- playful
- effective
- successful
I love my work!!! and I love what changes it creates for me and others in this world.
